MACS Former Pupil Success – Media, Sport and Teaching

Media - Brad Williams (a future budding journalist) has been shortlisted for the RCT ‘Outstanding New Contribution to Media’ award for his ‘Cynon Valley News – Brad’s Blog’ social network page. Brad has interviewed the First Minister, Mark Drakeford recently and has been ‘liked’ by his hero, the BBC Broadcaster Mr. Huw Edwards! He has filmed the RS departments success at the ‘First Give’ UK awards and interviewed our pupils and staff. He was also featured in a ‘breaking’ ITV News feature. Brad’s Blog has reached an incredible 27,000 people! Brad will attend the awards ceremony at Aberdare Coliseum on March 14th. We wish him well and have our fingers crossed!

Brad is very keen to blog regular news features regarding work undertaken in MACS. He will shortly include the MACS visit to WE Day at Wembley Arena, London and our ‘Ambassadors to Auschwitz’ visit to Poland. If you would like anything featured, please email Mr. Church.

Sport - Our former pupil now professional snooker player, Duane Jones has recently excelled in the sport. Duane reached the semi-final of the German Masters Snooker. He was ranked No.90 in the world and beat the world No. 8 Ding Junhui in the quarter finals. Although, he did not progress beyond the semi-final, Duane gave numerous television and radio interviews, scored the second highest break of the tournament (138), played in-front of 2,500 people in the sold-out arena, has been nominated for the ‘shot of the season’ and has come back to Wales with a very healthy cheque for £20,000! If Duane wins his first match at the Welsh Open in Cardiff (starting next week), he may face the current Masters champion Judd Trump. We wish him well for this tournament!
