Headteacher’s Blog 22/09/2019

It has been a very busy but very positive start to the term here at MACS. We are delighted to welcome all new Year 7 pupils to the school and I am pleased to report that they have settled really well in their first few weeks. In fact, all pupils have returned with a positive attitude and excellent standards of uniform and I would like to thank parents and carers for support with this.

I also wish to take this opportunity to congratulate pupils who sat external examinations in the summer on gaining some excellent qualifications and I am proud to report that the number of Year 11 pupils achieving the top grades of 5A*-A has increased for the fourth consecutive year! Llongyfarchiadau!

There are some exciting new developments to share this term. We have introduced Classcharts, which has already enabled us to reward pupils with a huge number of Achievement Points, which pupils can build up and exchange for prizes. We have also adopted a new mobile phone policy, introducing ‘Phone Zones’ in our Coffee Shop and Canteens which has been working incredibly well and has had overwhelming support from pupils. Finally, we have introduced Parent Mail as our main form of communicating with parents and carers

As an Ambassador School for the British Exploring Society we are committed to providing pupils with opportunities for rich learning experiences for Global Citizenship. We have developed links with the British Council and have joined other schools in Wales in the Botawa project, linking with schools in Tanzania. On Thursday 12th September we gave a warm Welsh welcome to teachers from Tanzania, who visited lessons, took part in a Question and Answer session with members of our Senedd and enjoyed a celebratory assembly with pupils from Years 7 and 8.

I look forward to updating your regularly in this blog and thank you for your continued support for the school.
